Tyrolean Swiss Pine Specialties
For the production of the Tyrolean Stone Pine Spirit, about three to four stone pine cones are inserted per litre of alcohol. However, due to the naturalness of the raw material, the number can vary. Depending on the vintage and location, there are 13 to 19 cones per kilogram.
Tyrolean Stone Pine Spirit - often colloquially called "Zirben Schnapps" - has a distinctive taste and a full aroma that is often described as woody, resinous, spicy and slightly citrusy. The taste is very distinctive and reminiscent of a hike in the Tyrolean mountains.
Tyrolean Stone Pine Spirit is drunk neat at a drinking temperature of about 16-18° C.
Pine cone slices are also macerated in pure alcohol for the Swiss Stone Pine Liqueur. The macerate is not distilled afterwards, but carefully filtered and finally sweetened with a little sugar. After maturing in barrels, the liqueur is bottled. The two Swiss stone pine specialities are very similar in taste, but the liqueur is slightly sweeter.
