Mash
The mash is a mixture of crushed fruits that are fermented together with their own juice. When making schnapps, the mash is usually made from fruits such as apples, pears or plums.
The crushed fruits ferment, which leads to the formation of alcohol. The mash is then distilled. The taste and quality of the finished schnapps depend to a large extent on the quality of the mash.
