The blueberry comes from the heather family. They grow on moors, on sandy ground and in open woodlands. The blue berries are ready for harvest in the late summer months. They are then collected by hand using a blueberry rake.

The real blueberry is small and highly aromatic, not like the large cultivated blueberries, which have a white flesh and are bluish-purple throughout.
